Wednesday, March 10th, 2010A gang of masked robbers with guns attacked the European Poker Tour held in central Berlin on Saturday, escaping with some one million euros and injuring players, police said. The armed robbery took place at central Berlin’s Grand Hyatt Hotel, when six masked men burst into the hall with nearly 1000 players who are participating in the poker tournament. Some videos recorded at the scene showed that the robbers prompted a brief panic, people scattering and desks toppled. Berlin’s Tageszeitung newspaper reported on its website that the robbers had Kalashnikov assault rifles and grenades in hands and asked security staffs to stand still. Four robbers stormed the hotel while two others were on the lookout. Police said some poker players were injured, though not seriously. The robbers took away around one million euros. An investigation is underway. Police hoped any one who has video footage or photographs would contact them.
